Howard Voelker began his ministry as principal at Zion Lutheran in August of 2003. Before coming to Zion, he has served as teacher, athletic director, and/or principal in Nebraska, Missouri, Indiana, and Wisconsin. This year marks his 39th year in Lutheran education. Howard received his BS at Concordia—Seward, Nebraska, his MA at Wayne State College—Wayne, Nebraska, and his administration certification at Indiana University Southeast—New Albany, Indiana. His wife, Mary, recently earned her PhD at the University of Nebraska—Lincoln and is Director of Secondary Education at Concordia University—Texas.
The Voelkers have three children. John and his family live in Boonville, California, where they manage an organic farm. Jennifer and her husband, Brian Linton, recently earned their PhD’s at Michigan State University, and are busy working and living in Miami, Florida. James was employed by TCEQ for the past 3 years before entering law school at SMU in Dallas where his wife, Gretchen, works for an advertising agency. The Voelkers’ “passion” has for years been renovation and restoration of older homes. They are presently restoring 100-year-old homes in West Point, Nebraska, and Walburg, Texas.
