Principal's Message
Dear Prospective Parent(s),
On behalf of the entire Zion Lutheran family, I want welcome you to our school’s website. Selecting a school for your child (ren) is a very important decision and we want to thank you for considering our outstanding school.
Zion Lutheran School provides a quality Christian education in pre-school through eighth grade and serves as a feeder school to many high schools in our surrounding communities. Our team of committed educators takes great pride in working with the youth of today as they prepare the next generation of Christian leaders who become “Champions for Christ.”
The curriculum used at Zion exceeds the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards required by the State of Texas. Hands on methods of teaching are practiced by the faculty with academic success very evident in all areas of the curriculum. We currently have a student to teacher ratio of sixteen students to one teacher. For the past six years, Iowa Test of Basic Skills scores for grades one through eight have been in the 90th percentile. Zion is accredited through the National Lutheran School Accreditation Commission (NLSAC) and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) through the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission (TEPSAC).
In addition to the core subjects being taught, all students at Zion take Spanish, art, and computer classes. Enrichment tools such as “Imagine-It” and “Art Attacks” are used to enhance our reading and art programs. Technology is integrated into the curriculum as classrooms are equipped with Smartboards or Mimio Teach devices, document cameras, and laptops and/or iPads for use by the teachers and students.
On an annual basis, students at Zion participate in regional and state PSIA academic competitions. Over the years our students have been very successful by winning the district events the past two years and sending students onto the state meet.
Along with the academic competitions, many students are active in other co-curricular programs such as music, drama, and athletics. The music and drama departments present two musical productions each school year. The middle school students also compete in our athletic program. All fifth through eighth grade students who participate are placed onto junior varsity or varsity teams in football, volleyball, basketball, and track. Zion’s varsity teams have been successful throughout the years, with the 2010 girls’ basketball team winning the Regional and State Lutheran Basketball Championships.
In an effort to build strong Christian leaders, Zion students participate in Student Council and National Junior Honor Society. These students work eagerly in developing and overseeing school-wide activities and projects. Through these experiences, these young people are gaining wonderful leadership skills.
We are proud and feel honored to offer a Christ-centered, quality education to the students of our community. The faculty and staff are consistent in modeling Christ-like charter and sharing their faith on a daily basis in order to develop strong Christian leaders.
Again, I want to thank you for taking the time to visit our school’s website. After reviewing these pages, please feel free to contact us to receive more information. We would love to visit with you!
Building Christian Leaders,
Steve Glandorf
