Early Childhood

Zion Lutheran Church & School has provided a quality early childhood program for over 30 years.  Since its inception, our preschool and kindergarten programs have been outstanding.  We are blessed with committed and loving educators who serve our young children on a daily basis.

One of the highlights surrounding our early childhood program is that in January of 2011, our kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Kathy Pitts was named the Early Childhood Educator of the Year.  This incredible honor was bestowed upon her by the Texas District of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.  There are nearly 1,300 early childhood teachers in Lutheran schools throughout the state of Texas.  With 32 years of ministry at Zion, we are truly blessed to have Kathy serving us.

Below you will find a list of additional reasons why we feel the early childhood program at Zion Lutheran is the best place to educate the youth of today.

Zion Lutheran Church & School’s early childhood program is open to all who desire a Christian education for their children.  We offer a 3-day preschool and a 5-day kindergarten program.  Zion Lutheran follows the beginning age standards applicable to the State of Texas:

  • Children enrolling in preschool must be four (4) years of age before September 1st.

o   Under certain circumstances children turning (4) years of age during the month of September MAY BE accepted based on the following conditions:

1)   The parents agree that the child will repeat preschool the following school year.

2)   The child has already been enrolled as a (3) three year old in an early childhood program.

3)   The child has older siblings currently enrolled at Zion.

4)   The parents and child agree to a pre-enrollment interview and evaluation.

  • Children enrolling in kindergarten must meet one of the following requirements:

1)   The successful completion of preschool at Zion Lutheran Church & School.

2)   The child has turned five (5) years of age before September 1st and successfully completed a readiness test administered by a member of the Zion Lutheran Church & School staff.

The early school years in any person’s life are critical.  We truly believe we have the programs in place to love, nurture, teach and develop the future Christian leaders who become Champions for Christ in our community, country and world.
