Co-Curricular Programs
Our faculty and staff truly believe that every individual is blessed with special gifts and unique abilities. It is our goal to help each student realize, appreciate, and use his/her God-given talents. By providing a variety of co-curricular programs, we feel we give each student the opportunity to grow and become a well rounded Christian individual and “Champion for Christ.”
On an annual basis, students at Zion participate in local, district and state academic competitions. During the 2010-11 school year, Zion students won the district Private Schools Interscholastic Association (PSIA) meet with twenty students qualifying for the state PSIA competition. Four of these students finished in the top ten in the state in their respective events, with one sixth grade student finishing first in the On-Sight Drawing competition.
Along with the academic competitions, many students are active in other co-curricular programs such as music, drama, and athletics. The music and drama departments present two musical productions each school year. The middle school students also compete in our athletic program. All fifth through eighth grade students who participate are placed onto junior varsity or varsity teams in football, volleyball, basketball, and track. Zion’s varsity teams have been successful throughout the years, with the 2010 girls’ basketball team winning the Regional and State Lutheran Basketball Championships.
In an effort to build strong Christian leaders, Zion students participate in Student Council and National Junior Honor Society. These students work eagerly in developing and overseeing school-wide activities and community projects. Through these experiences, these young people are gaining wonderful leadership skills.
