Student Council (STUCO)

What is a Student Council?

A Student Council is a representative structure for students only, through which they can become involved in the affairs of the school, working in partnership with school management, staff and parents for the benefit of the school and its students.

Usually the student council works with a teacher, who is the link person between students and staff and management in the school.

What is the main role of the Student Council?

A Student Council is a representative structure for all the students in the school.  It provides students with the opportunity to become involved in the affairs of the school, working in partnership with school management, staff and parents.   It should always work for the benefit of the school and its students.

Working with the administration, faculty and staff in the school, the Student Council has responsibility for the following:

Communicating and consulting with all of the students in the school;
• Involving as many students as possible in the activities of the Council;
• Planning and managing the Council's program of activities for the year;
• Managing and accounting to the Student Council and administration, for any funds raised by the
Council.

Zion Lutheran’s Student Council (STUCO)

In the fall of 2010, under the direction and leadership of faculty members, Maria Arellano and Steve Menke, Zion Lutheran launched our new Student Council (STUCO) program.  The leadership team of: president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer & historian were selected by the student body. Additionally, class representatives were selected from each class in grades three through eight.

Through this wonderful program, these STUCO members are developing excellent leadership qualities and skills.   The leadership team is eagerly establishing programs whereby not only the student body will benefit, but the entire community at large.  In December of 2010, in one of their first endeavors, the STUCO members led a canned food drive among the student body which benefited the “Caring Place” in Georgetown.  The goal was to donate 500 cans of food.  When all was said and done, our generous students and families contributed nearly 3,000 canned food items.

We are proud of our STUCO members and the leadership roles they are taking at Zion Lutheran!
